Born in Bosnia, Maja moved to Canada at the age of 7 where she began her early dance training spanning all styes from modern to hip hop. As a dancer, Maja has performed around North America, a highlight being representing Team Canada at the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Dance Championships in 2008, winning a bronze medal. Since moving to New York in 2014, Maja has danced in and choreographed for numerous festivals and organizations including, NACHMO, Green Space, GIbney ShowDown, Footprints Modern Dance Festival, Six Degrees Dance, Dance Into Deliverance, and has been featured in several short dance films. Most recently, Maja’s choreography was featured in the 2017 Young Choreographer’s Festival presented by Emily Bufferd. Maja is passionate about giving voice to all communities to share their stories through dance, and volunteers her time to organizations with this aim, including the NACHMO Artist Committee and Dance/NYC. Maja is excited to choreograph her fourth piece for DanceWorks New York City!
