Born in Bosnia, Maja moved to Canada at the age of seven where she began her early dance training spanning all styes from modern to hip hop. As a dancer, Maja has performed around North America, a highlight being representing Team Canada at the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Dance Championships in 2008, winning a bronze medal. Since moving to New York in 2014 to continue her career as an actuary, Maja has had the opportunity to keep dance part of her life, performing at Translate Voices of Dance (curated by J Chen Project), RAW Artists, Gibney Showdown, Nacre Dance, Footprints Modern Dance Festival, Green Space Fertile Grounds, and has been part of several short dance films. Maja has choreographed for NACHMO, Six Degrees Dance and was featured in the 2017 Young Choreographer’s Festival presented by Emily Bufferd. Maja is passionate about giving voice to all communities to share their stories through dance, and volunteers her time to organizations with this aim, including the NACHMO Artist Committee and Dance/NYC. Maja is excited to choreographer her 5th piece for Danceworks New York City!
