Born in Bosnia, Maja moved to Canada at the age of 7 where she began her early dance training at the Shelley Shearer School of Dance, going on to compete at various competitions and festivals garnering several top awards, and eventually joining the studio staff as a teacher in 2008. The same year, Maja had the honor of representing Team Canada at the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Dance Championships, winning a bronze medal. Maja’s dance training expanded through attending the PULSE on Tour, creative directed by Brian Friedman, where she was invited by PULSE faculty to perform at several galas and showcases. Since moving to New York in 2014, Maja has performed at NACHMO, Green Space, and in Enoument, a short dance film produced by Dance Into Deliverance. Maja is a member of NACHMO’s Artists Committee, a choreographer with immersive theatre company Journey Lab, and is a featured dancer for the Dance as Art photography project under photographer Kevin Richardson. This is Maja’s second season choreographing for DanceWorks and she loves being part of the DanceWorks community!
