Ellein started learning ballet when she was in elementary school, but didn’t discover her true passion for dancing until her last year in high school. During 12th grade in Hong Kong, she started training at Ones To Watch Dance Studio on styles including Hip Hop, Locking, Popping, House, and Jazz Funk. During college at Carnegie Mellon University, she choreographed and danced for the school’s semi-annual Dancers Symposium, as well as the annual fashion show, Lunar Gala. She was also the Co-Captain of the school’s Hip Hop crew, International FreeStylers. After graduating, she continued training at StudioDanz Hong Kong, where she was recruited to join an all-girls dance crew, SIS. She was also invited to participate in the Dazzle Live showcase in Osaka as a guest performer. After working in finance for 3 years, she switched careers and became a bilingual high school math teacher in NYC, where she also advised and choreographed for student dance/theater teams at the school. Ellein spent several years as a full-time mom caring for her two daughters, who enjoy spontaneous dance sessions at home almost daily! Ellein has recently transitioned into a new career in data science, and currently lives in Astoria with her husband, daughters, and teenage cousin.
This is Ellein’s 8th season with DanceWorks NYC and her 1st season choreographing. She is super pumped and thankful for the opportunity to create a Hip Hop piece with her fellow mommy dancer, Shirley!
